All the static in my attic-a

pearl_jam1

Circa ‘95 I had a crush on Mr. Eddie Vedder ( Edward Louis Severson III thanks to Wiki).  My very first Pearl Jam tape was VS. released in ‘93.

I don’t know why but lately I have been spending a lot of time catching up on all the Pearl Jam Albums I didn’t bother listening to because I had transitioned over to more Indie/Dance/Techno Genres and completely dropped grunge like a defected baby.

I never read about Eddie Vedder before - but you have to read about him. Have to! To me at least, his story is very moving and it makes you connect deeper with his music. I have always been intrigued by people who sincerely are “moved” by certain musicians, songs, lyrics etc. I think its great that they tune in with their whole body and mind and it isn’t just head boppin music to them, that it means more. It inspires me to be more pro-active about reading on a musician or band, finding their roots, listening to their lyrics, trying to connect. Sometimes certain songs will bring me to tears but I feel like I lack some special element when I am not inspired or deeply moved by a song or live performance.

I wish I never fell off the Pearl Jam wagon, Vedder is seriously talented and I am 10 years late. I wish I had at least seen them live in concert ONE TIME.  They are re-releasing TEN and I am hoping they tour soon to promote that or at least to celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2011. I am definitely going to go when they come to Dallas.  My friends now would probably be surprised hearing me blast Pearl Jam since lately all I have really grown accustomed to jammin’ to have been dancier tracks and not so much rock tracks.

This video is Eddie’s very first solo video from the music he composed for the movie Into the Wild. Which is a movie you need to watch and fall in love with. Seriously..tears. My favorite movie quote is from this movie “Happiness is only real when shared”.

Uff. The whole soundtrack is stripped down Vedder on the guitar basically. It’s beautiful. You don’t have to feel the same was I do but I could easily lose myself listening to some of these tracks.

The Blow, from Portland, OR. They have super awesome smart lyrics and the music is great.

Check out the lyrics:

Some philosophies fuel a belief in the self,
constructed to keep one’s goods on one’s own shelf.
Built well you’re a strong letter I,
with the feet on the ground and the head to the sky.
Now and then you can bend,
it’s okay to lean over my way.
You fear that you can’t do it all,
and you’re right.
Even diligent day takes relief every day
from its work making light from the night.

And when you’re holding me
we make a pair of parentheses.
There’s plenty space to encase
whatever weird way my mind goes,
I know I’ll be safe in these arms.

If something in the deli aisle makes you cry
you know I’ll put my arm around you
and I’ll walk you outside,
through the sliding doors,
why would I mind?

You’re not a baby if you feel the world.
All of the babies can feel the world. That’s why they cry.

I will retract my kudos now please

If someone had come across my photos, myspace or my blog and commented on my photography or something they had liked, I imagine I would reply with a very enthusiastic THANK YOU! It baffles me and almost upsets me that when a compliment is given to an artist that hasn’t quite made it big yet, that they would dismiss it in such a way as someone like, say, Metallica would dismiss fan mail. I had wrote someone that is a local texas musician, I thought she had an amazing voice with equally amazing lyrics. I know this follows the - better to give than receive but dammot, I want to receive my thanks that means a lot to me.

Instead I will promote someone else I have been listening to a lot. Not a local Texas artist but beautiful nonetheless. Jose Gonzalez doing a cover of “Heartbeats” by The Knife.

I actually like his song on his myspace page “How Low” but I could not find a link for that one.

Enjoy!

How are things?

I know. I am a pretty uninteresting person. My apologies. I am not doing my part to ensure that you guys (the few of you that is) keep coming back. I promise. I have plans to take more photos this weekend (weather permitting) I am parenthesis friendly today!

Nothing new to report. My friends know the details. If you have problems waking up (like I do) try this new website that I have been using. There’s a beta version so you have to request to get an actual account. http://www.wakerupper.com/ Free wake up calls! Probably be more interesting if an actual person called you. Much like the Seinfeld episode.

I had a pretty eventful weekend this past week. Went to the Ft. Worth shooting range, I threw my usual ” I am not good at this game so I refuse to play any longer” fit. I hate not being the best or at least the top 3 or even the top 2 at something. Shooting is just not something I am good at. If necessary I might be able to shoot an intruder but so long as he is 5 feet away from me and has a big circular target right on his chest. Maaaybe he would have to tell me how to line up the sites also - otherwise I am as good as dead. After that we (not giving details of names) went to SpeedZone and did the go kart racing thingamajig. <Insert I am not good at this game so I am not playing fit> Apparently I can’t do “guy” stuff. I suck at racing.

I decided to be a good mother and take Taco to the vet to get a physical and the rest of his booster shots. I didn’t realize I was 3 months overdue. Isn’t someone supposed to call?

You know I tend to not like to delve into personal topics such as relationships. But so far things are A okay on my end. Its a self-fulfilling prophecy. The minute I decide to endulge in relationship talk is typically the minute it all spirals into a death. Sometimes I wonder if I am doomed to just live my life learning lessons and being alone.

Oh yeah so my new place of employment has a built in full fledge gym, free weights, weight machines, tread mills, elliptical, bathroom, showers, hairdryers, everything! I have been taking advantage of this convenience. Have been working out for about 2 weeks now. Can’t brag really about any weight loss since none has occurred. I keep cheating on those damn pecans! I finally just ate the rest of the bag tonight - tired of the temptation. I’ll be super serious tomorrow. I am not trying to lose weight so much as I am just trying to feel a lot better about myself when I look in the mirror. Wouldn’t mind 15 lbs just falling off in my sleep. Speaking of sleep - I got a spider bite while I was asleep! My boyfriend thinks I am ADD. But I just assure myself it makes for an interesting conversation.

I bought tickets to Ladytron AND Radiohead. I am STOKED! I didn’t spend an extra 20-30 bones on Radiohead though to get actual seats.

Support my friend Hans on his nights at the Fallout Lounge. I have been a bad friend and not very supportive of his endeavors. But please friends - for those that do not have to wake at the butt crack of dawn. Enjoy some good tunes and good vibes.

My update - I know exciting!

Last night went and saw the Iron and Wine show. I was angry with myself for not bothering to bring my camera. I snuck in the little Canon SD400 Elph though which took pictures of crap. Then I saw 3 people with their mega cameras right below the stage taking pictures. My heart cried out to them. Oh well I’ll learn for next time.

I might be working on a start up internet dating site with my bro-in-law if we can get all the kinks working.  I expect all of you to fake testimonies and send me pictures of yourselves happy and holding hands. I am super excited about that. I am ready to do something else. I just feel so bottled up and constricted right now. This is my time to do something craaazy with all the risks involved.

I also want to start taking pictures of local bands and build a little portfolio book of band shots together to pass around to semi bigger bands to eventually be just a designated photographer at the shows. One can wish.  *Colby’s 10 mo was this month (I think) I went over there and took some pictures of him dressed up as santy claus. Pictures of the show and of bebe Colby will be up soon.

If anyone wants to live in Lakewoods Old Historic District (is that right?) I’d like to get a unit there at one of those awesome houses. Hardwood floors, spacious living quarters..from there I can purchase a shuffle board, pool table and darts. Old school darts..chalk and everything.  And again, one can wish.

*names have been changed to avoid internet baby nappers from kidnapping this bebe.
